What patients are actually saying

While the staff here are such hard working professionals and the quality of care is excellent, the wait times are absolutely unacceptable, unbelievable, and COMPLETELY out of hand. Sitting in a full emergency room on a Friday night, a 12 hour wait is so irresponsible of our government to force upon patients. We have NO CHOICE to wait it out in pain and distress. An example, a young man with a serious cut requiring no more than 5 minutes of stitches has been waiting to be seen for 8 hours. We have been told the doctor is still in surgery. The only doctor?? There are at least 50 people waiting to be seen here at 2 am on a Friday. We arrived at 6 pm and may not be seen until 6 am. There simply cannot be one single doctor to deal with all of this, and if so, this is extremely irresponsible of Fraser Health. No wonder Canadians are now traveling to places like Mexico, China, India to receive prompt quality health care. After this experience, we will be considering these types of options. But we absolutely shouldn’t have to.

We had a very positive experience at the Emergency Department, especially considering my son is autistic and can feel overwhelmed in medical settings. Laura, who handled our triage, was exceptionally considerate, patient, and calm. She took the time to approach my son gently, spoke in a reassuring way, and made sure he felt safe and understood. A big shout-out as well to Raj from Security, who went out of his way to help by providing a fidget toy and bubbles. Anna, our nurse, was also very helpful, attentive, and compassionate throughout our visit.

It’s my first time having a surgery and being in the ER, and I had nothing but the most amazing experience. The doctors, nurses and other staff were really knowledgeable, quick to action and super caring. My wait time in the ER for appendicitis was pretty short in ER terms, and had a surgery scheduled the same day I showed up. My only gripe is that the doctors note for work they handed me was too neat and didnt look like the usual scrawlings😂. All in all, 10/10 experience!
